Voted on Jeff Maurer-unanimous voted in

Discussion on Duel Membership - Currently you are required to pay full IPSSA dues to have duel membership but you are currently required to attend only one chapter meeting per month. Ryno discussed the possibility of changing the fee to requiring only chapter dues to be paid for duel membership. The discussion that followed was related to what a chapter gains in duel membership and what it loses. The lack of required attendance and familiarity with that member was a problem for many members. The discussion was postponed when chapter realized no one was interested currently in duel membership.

Presidents Announcements

  1. Region 8 is having its Regional meeting in September in Las Vegas.
  2. The electrical code changes reported last month had gone into effect but were causing other cities to rethink implementation because of some current problems with the GFI change.

Good of Order

Dennis Wah passed out a handout on salt conversion chart and CYA chart to help us know the correct amount of salt and CYA to add to pools. A correctly operating salt cell should be using between 6-8 amps and putting out 24v or more. To adjust the cell output of an EZ Touch unit with a control panel for more than one day requires adjustment at the panel not at the unit. Steve Pettijohn will be in charge of Good of the Order next month.

Ron Orson asked if our chapter might have someone come in and help membership understand maintenance/troubleshooting for SVSR systems.

Old Business

Sick Route Coverage changes. PJ Staun motioned to vote on all changes that had been noted and available for the last month. Steve Lawrie seconded. Kurt Schuster reminded the chapter that the change included only CPO certified members would be able to take care of commercial pools and they would be reimbursed 50% of the monthly labor costs. Apartment pools are considered commercial pools. Motion was passed.

New Business

Check out of The Millionaire Poolman book would be handled by Al Paciora. When you turn in the book you must turn it into him and when you check the book out you must sign it out through him. Tom Brown and Pam Seufert were given the book for this month. We believe Josh Wiles has the 3rd book.

Old Business

Sick Route Committee Report – All service persons that had problems with there sick route coverage pools have been talked to. The sick route committee has decided not to fine or suspend anyone because of problems with communication between Sick Route Chairman/Downed member/and member covering pool. A reminder is made to the chapter; Failure to cover pools in a professional manner can lead to fines, suspension, and/or removal from the chapter. The committee has gone over the chapter sick route coverage rules and made some changes to address the issues that have come up. The problems addressed were 1) does the member have to take care of the pool him/herself, 2) commercial pools often require more time than regular pools and special certification, 3) what is an average pool stop, 4) communication between Downed member, Sick Route Chair, and member covering pool. All the changes were read to members. There was concern about who is required to take care of pool and also the time required for SRC. Because so many changes were made it was suggested that everyone needed to receive a copy of the changes and study them. At the next chapter meeting we will continue our discussion on chapter sick route changes.

New Business

  1. Kurt Schuster wanted our chapters input about a chapter member in Anderson, Nevada and attendance. The chapter felt he should be given slack.

  3. Arrow insurance is offering to provide IPSSA with a death & disability term policy at an additional cost of $3.40/ month. After a brief discussion our chapter voted to tell IPSSA we would accept this new coverage, 20 for and 6 against.
  4. Don Holthusen asked how fines and problems with chapter members get handled.
  5. Kurt Schuster reported that he had found someone who is able to supply tabs at $1.50/ pound and he would keep our chapter informed on availability and quality.

Speaker:

VGBA information from Mike Long of SCP/APSP
Two important things to remember: 1) all drain covers manufactured after 12.20.08 must be approved drain covers and all public pools are required to have changed their drain cover by that date and 2) any public (a pool with more than single family use) pool with a single drain or double drain with less than 36” separation requires an SVRS.

Two problems occurring: 1) Maricopa county is requiring a permit to be pulled for public pool drain change and are requiring only commercial contractor licensed repairpersons to be able to pull that permit; and 2) Fountain Hills and Paradise Valley are requiring SVSR on every suction line whether public, residential or water feature.

David Straus informed the chapter that he and his wife were seeking to adopt another child and if any of us had information on a potential available child to let him know.
